What’s Yonder?
“It's as if Time Out, Amex and Monzo had a baby”- Will T, Yonder Member
We’re building the financial membership of the future. Starting with a credit card that has fun and experiences at its core, we’re the antithesis to your dad’s stuffy, corporate, boring credit card.
Whilst tech is revolutionising the finance industry, credit is still stuck in the stone ages. We want to create a world where financial services are fair and conscious, and the stress of debt is eliminated for everyone.
We're taking a values led approach to changing credit for everyone, so we recommend you check them out here:Our DNA.
Sounds cool. So what’s my part in this?
We are now looking for a VP of Finance who will be part of the Yonder leadership team and will look after all aspects of finance across FP&A, financial operations, private debt securitisation, treasury and tax. Our finance team is a real partner to the entire business and isn’t just the team in the corner that says yes or no; they’re actively contributing ideas that deliver value to our members and our business. That means spending just as much time with the team as Excel.
We run a lean team of two who manage nearly £10m/month of payment volumes and a £50m debt facility through a private securitisation. We expect this person to continue to be hands on and be willing to work at both the company strategy level and day-to-day of financial operations.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be accountable for the overall financial health of Yonder and lead a team of two in finance. You’ll be expected to both lead the function and be an individual contributor.
Debt raising and managing our existing private securitisation
* Investor relations with our debt providers: Your accountable for managing our relationship with Viola Credit, our debt provider. That means proactively working with them on our overall business strategy and tracking our performance against covenants.
* Operations: You’ll be accountable for the day-to-day operations of running a private securitisation, includes reporting, data tape extracts etc.
* Debt Fundraising: You’ll be responsible for future debt fundraises as we expand our receivables book. This includes origination, commercial negotiation and running the due diligence process.
* Executing a debt raise transaction: You’ll be responsible for taking a term sheet all the way through to a fully live debt facility. This includes working with external counsel on running the transaction, reviewing all the legal documents and getting the next facility live.
Financial Planning and Analysis:
* Forecasting and scenario planning: You’ll be accountable for the overall budget, which includes forecasting, scenario planning and working with other wider organisation to make changes. The P&L is ultimately the outcome of all the day to day decisions of Yonder.
* Financial analysis: Lead the financial modelling and analysis for new product initiatives, market expansion, and strategic partnerships. You won’t just be ‘rubber-stamping’ initiatives; but actively guiding the direction based on financial analysis.
* Equity raising: You’ll be supporting Tim with equity raising through due diligence phases.
Financial Operations:
* Accounts payable/receivable and payroll: You’re accountable for day to day finance and happy to do the ‘boring jobs’ to share the load around. We always look for ways to automate using technology rather than just hire more people.
* Tax: You’re responsible for managing our relationship with HMRC and making sure we’re compliant with all relevant tax laws.
* Treasury: You’ll optimise our treasury function to maximise yield on our cash reserves whilst making sure we have plenty of cash liquidity available.
* Bank relationships: Manage relationships with our banking partners to optimise funding opportunities and maintain strong financial partnerships.
* Risk and controls: Implement and maintain robust controls and procedures to make sure we’re good stewards of Yonder’s finances. This includes managing our external financial audit.
Leading the Yonder organisation:
* Culture contributor: You’re not a passive observer but an active contributor to the Yonder culture. That means identifying when there’s gaps in our culture against our values and actively working to get us back on the right track. Leaders at Yonder are cultural contributors.
* Invest in the potential of others: You’re passionate about people and wanting to see them succeed and you’ll be responsible for investing in your team and the wider organisation to see them flourish and reach their full potential.
* Organisational design: You’ll play an active role in designing the finance organisation and supporting the wider organisation. You’re on-board with our organisational design philosophy which is very small teams, highly talented.
You're a great fit if you
Bring at least 10 years of experiences in finance; with leadership experience at a Fintech
Finance is core to Yonder, it’s in the name of the industry…financial services. We’re looking for someone who has leadership experience at a scale-up Fintech, ideally with some of that in lending, capital markets or securitisation. You’ll have prior professional experience in banking, accounting or transactional advisory.
Passionate about leading and investing in people
You’re passionate about people and teams. You think about what motivates people and what gets them excited to come to work every day and you adapt your leadership and management style to get the best from your team.
Combine deep experience with first principles thinking
You’ve ‘seen it before’ in finance but also bring fresh first principles thinking on how finance should work. You’re thinking about how finance can be a core part of how we make decisions day to day and challenge traditional orthodoxies on how finance departments should run.
Obsessed with finance and love learning
You spend far too much time reading the Financial Times or Bloomberg and subscribed to more CFO podcasts than you care to admit. You’re an avid learner and keen to accelerate your career to build your skillset at a fast growth start-up.
Recognise that finance is still about relationships
You invest in relationships as much as you invest in building Excel models. You have a proven track record of managing external and internal stakeholders, through both the good and bad times.
Want to build an exceptional but small team and happy to get your hands dirty
You’re more interested in building a high calibre team than building a big team. You’re comfortable with getting your hands dirty and sharing the workload around of the ‘less so fun’ parts of finance.
We know that diverse teams build better products. If you’re from an under-represented community, we’d especially love to hear from you.
Even if you don’t feel 100% qualified, please do apply anyway. We love wonky career paths and your attitude and desire to grow are just as important as your experience.
