Offer description

There is an exciting opportunity for a full-time Consultant in Diabetes/Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals.

The successful candidate will join 7 Consultant Diabetes/Endocrinologists working across WTWA. The team is well-supported by middle-grade doctors, including specialist trainees and specialty doctors. The diabetes/endocrinology component of this role will be primarily based at Wythenshawe, Withington, and Trafford, with options for clinics at Altrincham based on the candidate's preferences and service needs. The Diabetes and Endocrinology service offers a comprehensive spectrum of secondary and tertiary services.

We are keen to attract candidates interested in innovative approaches to advance the specialist services and who will contribute to the wider hospital activities, including supporting management and training (both undergraduate and postgraduate). Regular multidisciplinary team meetings are held.

This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2023 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The Job Description outlines the main duties, which may be reviewed based on experience and service developments, in consultation with the post holder.

This is a full-time 10 PA post. Applications for less than full-time work or job sharing will also be considered.

The multidisciplinary team includes specialist nurses, psychologists, and podiatrists.

In addition to outpatient activities, the successful candidate will spend over a third of their weekday job plan delivering consultant-led care on a newly developed Medical Specialties Ward, which has 23 beds for patients with various conditions. They will manage patients alongside two other consultants with specialist interests in disciplines such as renal. The role includes providing teaching and supervision to junior staff on the ward, leading service delivery, improvement initiatives, and relevant Quality Improvement Projects (QIP).
