We have a position for a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist.
Overview
To undertake a clinical role in podiatry delivering high quality, evidence-based community podiatry within a geographical locality, under the direction and with support of the Community Podiatry High Risk Lead, Team Leads and Operational Manager.
Responsibilities
* Assess patients\' podiatric needs and deliver quality programmes of podiatric care in community clinics and domiciliary settings.
* Undertake assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge planning for patients with specialist care needs, and manage your own caseload.
* Participate in audit, research and continuing professional development; be an integral member of the podiatry team.
* Manage clinical risk within your caseload and seek guidance as appropriate.
* Maintain a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management and those of other staff.
* Obtain informed consent prior to treatment plans commencing.
* Perform diagnostic procedures using appropriate equipment (e.g., wound swabs, Doppler ultrasound); interpret, record, report and act on results.
* Carry out comprehensive neurological and vascular assessments, wound debridement, advanced pathology and wound management (e.g., dressing selection).
* Conduct specialist assessments, treatments and evaluation of outcomes for community podiatry patients with a variety of presentations.
* Undertake specialist surgical interventions for complex nail pathologies (e.g., nail avulsions and chemical destruction of the nail matrix with local anaesthesia).
* Manage a domiciliary caseload within a geographical area and use clinical time effectively.
* Maintain clear, comprehensive and accurate records; update medical history, evaluate progression and develop treatment plans with the client as required.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers, using skills of motivation, explanation and gaining informed consent.
* Teach and assess students, newly qualified podiatrists and podiatry assistants as required.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience and knowledge of a broad range of podiatric practice with a desire to learn and develop further.
* Proficiency in comprehensive neurological and vascular assessments, wound management and related procedures.
