About the role:
Provide clinical interventions to help reduce hospital presentations and admissions related to alcohol and drugs with onward referral of patients who can be managed and supported by CGL/ TAS.
Develops links with hospital specialist services and in-patient units Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Orthopaedics, Falls prevention services, A&E Dept., Psychiatry Liaison and Dual Diagnosis services.
Contribute to MDT management plans as appropriate.
Provide advanced assessments and clinical oversight of small group of complex patients who misuse alcohol and drugs, while they remain in hospital or as part of their discharge to community plan.
Provide expert specialist advice and guidance on the clinical management of alcohol and drugs patients in order to prevent short term and long term complication.
Provide support and education to carers.
In collaboration with medical staff, undertakes research/ audits for the purpose of clinical practice development.
Participate in the education and training of medical staff and other MDT on alcohol, drugs and related subjects.
Act as a mentor to PAN London University students undertaking pre-registration and post-graduate courses. Also acts as preceptor to newly qualified staff.
Provide cover for colleagues in hospital and community settings during sickness/absence and annual leave.
About you:
* First level registered nurse with recent relevant post qualification experience and a current PIN
* Relevant recent experience of working within drug and alcohol treatment (desirable but not essential)
* Sound and demonstrable knowledge of harm reduction and health promotion interventions
* Ability to assess and recovery plan service users and formulate written
reports, as necessary.
* Clinical auditing skills to inform evaluation of the service and identify areas for development.
* Employ a professional, empathetic, and non-judgmental attitude towards
service users and all stakeholders.
* An understanding of the importance of professional integrity in relationships with service users, peers, and other relevant professionals
