Procurement Specialist
A fantastic opportunity for a Procurement Specialist to join a fast-growing technology company based in the Greater Cambridge area. This role will play a key part in supporting a rapidly scaling organisation, ensuring the business has the materials, components, services, and equipment required to operate efficiently and deliver highly innovative technology products. This is a hands-on position working closely with engineering, operations, and finance teams to manage purchasing activity and supplier relationships across a wide range of technical and operational categories.
Location: Saffron Walden, Essex – fully onsite role, 5 days per week
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
Requirements for Procurement Specialist:
* Strong commercial experience working in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or buying roles
* Experience working within engineering, manufacturing, electronics, hardware, or technical environments
* Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure competitive pricing and favourable supplier terms
* Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple orders, suppliers, and quotations simultaneously
* Experience managing the full procurement lifecycle, including sourcing, quoting, negotiating, purchasing, and order tracking
* Ability to interpret technical specifications or work closely with engineering teams to clarify procurement requirements
* Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders
* Good understanding of procurement systems, purchase order processes, invoicing workflows, and inventory management
* Proactive and self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
* A degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline is beneficial but not essential
*** Due to the nature of the work, you must be in a position to qualify for UK Security Clearance.
Experience in the following is beneficial:
* ERP or MRP systems
* Logistics coordination and international shipping processes
* Customs documentation and import/export procedures
* Export control regulations or restricted materials handling
* Procurement within advanced technology, manufacturing, defence, robotics, or electronics environments
* CIPS qualification or working towards certification
Responsibilities for Procurement Specialist:
* Manage the full procurement lifecycle, including supplier sourcing, quotation analysis, negotiation, purchasing, and order tracking
* Identify and engage reliable suppliers for technical components, equipment, and operational services
* Raise purchase orders, manage approvals, and maintain accurate procurement records
* Monitor stock levels and ensure timely replenishment of critical components and materials
* Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring supplier performance, pricing, reliability, and lead times
* Negotiate pricing agreements, contracts, service level agreements, and commercial terms with suppliers
* Coordinate shipments, deliveries, logistics arrangements, and customs documentation where required
* Work closely with engineering and operations teams to understand technical requirements and project timelines
* Support technical teams by ensuring the timely procurement and delivery of components and equipment
* Maintain accurate records relating to assets, tooling, and purchased components
* Contribute to the development and improvement of procurement processes suitable for a scaling technology business
* Support budgeting, cost control, and financial forecasting activities in collaboration with finance teams
* Ensure procurement activities comply with internal governance, ethical standards, and relevant regulatory guidelines
