Offer description

Overview

Calderdale’s Vision 2034 is to be a place full of opportunity, where we can all live a larger life. Narrowing the gap in physical inactivity will contribute to our aspirations for people to have reason to be full of hope. Physical activity is often a catalyst for people to come together in the natural environment, enjoy the borough’s distinctive heritage and to be creative. Through its key contribution to wellbeing, being active creates hope and opportunity.

Calderdale became a Sport England Place Partner in 2018. Since then, partners from across sectors have embedded physical activity into their system, ultimately making it easier for people in Calderdale to be physically active. The focus has been on groups of people and areas where physical activity is lowest. Building on the innovation to date, from April 2025, Calderdale’s partnership with Sport England will develop into a new phase called ‘place deepening’. This includes investment to enable the Council and our partners to further systematise reducing physical inactivity by developing active health and social care, active travel and active communities.

The impact of the Active Calderdale work undertaken since 2018 can be seen in the changes in physical activity levels across our population from where we were at the start of this work to where we are today. There has been a 6% increase in the percentage of adults who are physically active (150+minutes/week), and a 4% decrease in the percentage of the adult population who are classified as physically inactive (less than 30 minutes physical activity per week). We have a similar picture when it comes to children and young people where we have seen a 7% increase in the percentage of children and young people who are physically active and a 13% decrease in the percentage of children and young people who are classified as physically inactive.

Now a Place Partner with Sport England, Active Calderdale will be able to use the investment to deepen its work on three main themes, based on what communities and organisations across the borough have said are most important.

Key responsibilities

* To lead on the gathering and summarising of complex data and insight from several work streams for the purpose of proving impact and showing progress of Active Calderdale's place-based expansion work.
* The role is pivotal in ensuring our outcomes are measurable and our impact is effectively communicated to funders and stakeholders and the communities we serve. This will be evidenced by the creation of a bi- annual progress report and an annual impact report as well as regular comms messaging and stories of change.

The successful candidate will have significant experience at evaluating projects and evidencing impact. The ideal candidate will need to be able to interpret complex information from a number of sources and present this in a manner which meets the programme needs for the intended audience.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
