Job Title: Installation Methods Engineer
Location: Project Office / Offshore Support
Reports To: Project Engineering Manager
Role Summary
The Installation Methods Engineer is responsible for the development, validation, and delivery of installation methods for offshore and subsea operations. This role focuses on creating safe, efficient, and practical procedures to support the successful execution of offshore campaigns. Working closely with project engineering, marine, and offshore teams, the Methods Engineer ensures that all installation activities are engineered to meet project requirements, industry codes, and HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop detailed installation methodologies and procedures for subsea structures, pipelines, umbilicals, risers, and heavy lifts.
* Perform engineering analyses for lifting, rigging, seafastening, transportation, load-out, and installation operations.
* Prepare engineering work packs, method statements, and supporting documentation.
* Coordinate with drafting teams to produce rigging layouts, deck plans, and installation schematics.
* Interface with marine, construction, and vessel teams to validate methods and ensure operational readiness.
* Engage with Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS), classification societies, and client representatives to obtain approvals.
* Conduct constructability reviews and risk assessments for proposed installation methods.
* Provide remote office support during offshore execution, resolving technical queries as required.
* Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of methods and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Marine, Offshore, Structural, Subsea, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent).
* 5+ years’ experience in offshore/subsea installation engineering, ideally with a focus on methods development.
* Knowledge of offshore installation techniques (pipelay – S-lay, J-lay, reel-lay; subsea structures; SURF; heavy lift).
* Proficiency with analysis software (Orcaflex, SACS, Staad.Pro, Moses, or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of rigging, lifting gear, and seafastening design.
* Familiarity with offshore construction standards, codes, and client specifications.
* Strong technical writing and documentation skills for producing clear procedures and method statements.
* Effective communicator with ability to coordinate across disciplines and project stakeholders.
* Flexibility to travel occasionally to fabrication yards, client offices, or offshore sites.
