Overview

Are you interested in helping to solve a major global problem that is having widespread effects on our wildlife and on animal welfare?

The Mammalian Behaviour & Evolution Group seek an individual to join a BBSRC-funded project aiming to reduce the widespread negative impacts of rodent pest control on wildlife, and to improve efficacy and humaneness when animals need to be controlled. You will join a research team led by Professor Jane Hurst, where we will be assessing responses of different rodent species to specific test stimuli under both semi-natural and field conditions. The post is based at the University of Liverpool Leahurst Campus and will also involve field work.


Responsibilities

* Work on a BBSRC-funded project aimed at reducing the negative impacts of rodent pest control on wildlife and improving efficacy and humaneness when animals need to be controlled.
* Based at the University of Liverpool Leahurst Campus; involve field work.


Qualifications

* Training and experience in animal behaviour research; a first degree in a relevant area of biological science and substantial experience in running field experiments and/or relevant animal research (grade 6).
* Or a PhD in animal behaviour or behavioural ecology research and relevant experience of experimental work with animals (grade 7).
* Knowledge and experience of working with rodents is desirable but not essential as training will be given.


Contract and start

The post is full time and available for up to 2 years. Preferred start date January 2026.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
