Financial Accountant – Head Office
Office location: East Croydon station. Hybrid working available: 2 days working from home and 3 days in office.

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm.

About the role
The role is part of the Financial Reporting team which looks after Superdrug and Savers businesses. This includes supporting month‑end close and processes, quarterly reporting to Group in Hong Kong, and year‑end processes from liaising with auditors to statutory accounts reporting. It is a great opportunity to gain a breadth of experience for a Financial Accountant, with exposure to a wide range of areas within finance.
Typical responsibilities
* Take full ownership of preparing relevant internal and external reporting deliverables for entities such as Superdrug, Savers, and AS Watson (Health & Beauty UK) Limited, including coordination of period‑end activities.
* Coordinate the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring robust reviews and timely resolution of issues.
* Prepare direct and indirect cash flows and balance sheet reporting, ensuring timely and accurate forecasts and providing insightful variance analyses.
* Prepare annual corporation tax computations for entities, including capital allowances, payments on account, and period‑end tax postings.
* Develop and produce other relevant financial reports, such as annual statutory accounts.
* Support the Senior Financial Reporting Manager with ensuring Group accounting policy and internal control guidelines are understood and that new accounting standards are implemented.
* Support the Senior Financial Reporting Manager with ad‑hoc projects aimed at continuous improvement in financial reporting and the control environment.
* Line manage the Financial Accountant.
* Generate detailed customer‑focused initiatives aligned with departmental strategy and support implementation, enhancing both online and offline service.
Qualifications and skills required
* Qualified in a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
* Strong Excel skills.
* Self‑starter, able to work independently and learn new areas quickly.
* Experience of month‑end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and corporation tax is advantageous.
* Interest in the retail sector is useful.
* Demonstrated ability to build strong business relationships and influence stakeholders.
* Evidence of process improvement and team collaboration.
* Positive attitude towards feedback and ability to generate initiatives to exceed expectations.
* Ability to manage team strengths, address development opportunities and celebrate diversity.
* Proactive in keeping up with market and consumer trends and using data to inform decisions.
Technical responsibilities
* Assist the team in understanding when to use AI, when to rely on human judgment, and how to combine both.
* Shift routine tasks to higher‑value activities as AI takes on routine work.
* Model behaviours that encourage confidence with AI, develop effective use and critical thinking about outputs.
* Balance AI efficiency with human coaching, empathy, and team cohesion.
