Electrical & Mechanical Service Engineer (loadbanks) £18–£20/hr Paid Travel Overtime Location: Burton upon Trent (UK HQ, with regular European travel) Type: Full-time | Permanent About the Company This global engineering company is a leader in the design, manufacture, and rental of loadbanks – specialist equipment used to test and verify critical power systems such as generators, UPS units, and turbines. The Role As a Service Engineer, you'll support customers both on-site and remotely with the commissioning, servicing, and repair of electrical loadbank systems. You’ll be hands-on with testing, diagnostics, and technical reporting, and play a key role in ensuring high performance and reliability for customers’ critical infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include: * Servicing, fault-finding, and repairing equipment in-house and at customer sites * Performing inspections, resistance/insulation testing, and live load testing * Commissioning new systems (primarily in Europe) * Providing remote technical support for breakdowns * Supporting development, testing, and urgent parts dispatch * Booking your own travel (flights, hotels, etc.) using a company credit card Travel & Work Pattern * Based in Burton upon Trent when not on-site * 2–3 European trips/month (3–5 days each); occasional longer projects (up to 10 days) * Occasional weekend work required * All travel time paid hourly * Nights away from UK base paid at 12 hours minimum Pay & Benefits * £18–£20/hour, depending on experience * Overtime rates: * Weekdays: 8 hrs standard, 6 hrs at time-and-a-half, then double time * Saturdays: time-and-a-half | Sundays: double time * 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays * Company credit card, mobile phone, laptop/iPad provided Ideal Candidate * Strong electrical skills; able to read diagrams and perform detailed testing * Mechanically minded and hands-on * Self-driven and confident working independently at customer sites * Organised, with strong attention to detail * Comfortable with international travel and flexible working hours Preferred qualifications (not essential): * NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or Maintenance * 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) * ECS card, Electrical Test & Inspect, IOSH training If you're a practical engineer with strong electrical skills and a desire to see the world while solving real technical challenges — this could be your next move.
