Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon

The appointment is on a substantive basis; applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.
The appointee will be expected to work flexibly within the Upper Limb team, participate in the multi‑disciplinary team in managing patients with complex orthopaedic problems, and participate in the on‑call rota.
Main Duties of the Job
We are seeking a 1 WTE Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon to join our existing enthusiastic and experienced team of Upper Limb surgeons.
The hand and wrist service is at the forefront of innovation, working closely with academic and industry partners to advance implant designs and the evidence base for arthroplasty techniques, infection management, and musculoskeletal science.
You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold licence to practice.
Qualifications and Training
* CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, or within 6 months of CCT date at interview or on GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
* FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent
* General training in Orthopaedics
* GMC Registration – full registration and licence to practise
* D.Phil/PhD in topics related to the post
* British or equivalent Diploma in Hand Surgery
* 12‑month Fellowship in Hand and Wrist Surgery
* Training focused on bone infection surgery.
Work Experience
* General training in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery to specialist level or equivalent
* Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
* Evidence of working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team managing bone infection
* Current consultant‑level practice in a tertiary centre with experience of independent management of complex bone infection
* Experience delivering ultrasound‑guided injections
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent leadership skills, evidence of leading a clinical team at consultant level in a teaching hospital
* Effective administrative and time‑management skills; knowledge of NHS organisation
* Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork within a multidisciplinary team
* Basic IT skills
* Good spoken and written English, highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience of teaching undergraduate students and orthopaedic trainees; experience as clinical supervisor to resident medical staff
* Evidence of contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and audit activities
* Evidence of formal leadership training
* Experience with electronic patient record and database administration
* Experience in innovation, design and development of medical technology
* Evidence of developing and delivering teaching programmes at undergraduate or postgraduate level
* Evidence of establishing and delivering a new service or pathway
* Peer‑reviewed publications; previous research grants
