Job overview

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is at the heart of the organisation, where Emergency and Health Care Professional calls are received, triaged and dispatched, working to stringent response targets but with the need of the patient at the forefront of decision making. It is an intense and pressurised environment.

We are looking for Emergency Dispatchers to join our team of staff based at North House, Bicester, Oxfordshire.

We are offering secondment and development opportunities.

Please note: This role does not support remote working. You will need to be available to work from our Emergency Operations Centre in Otterbourne, Hampshire.


Main duties of the job

Applicants will have the following skills and experience:

* Successful completion of the ICAD Dispatcher course and demonstrable experience as a qualified Dispatch Assistant.
* The ability to work quickly and confidently under pressure
* Excellent geographical knowledge of areas covered
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to prioritise own work to ensure targets/objectives are achieved or exceeded
* Evidence of continued development / Portfolio
* Ability to undertake a wide range of activities and multi task
* Self resilience and ability to take on responsibility.

Corporate Induction

It’s really important for us to ensure you have the best onboarding experience which allows you to feel a sense of belonging from the start. To help with this, we will book your Corporate Induction as soon as we possibly can (depending on availability).

All new starters need to attend our *Corporate Induction in person, this is held over one and half days from our educational centres based in: Newbury (Berkshire), Bicester (Oxfordshire) or Whiteley (Hampshire). More specific details will be sent to you once your start date has been confirmed.

*Please note – depending on your role additional training may be required following on from your corporate induction.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants will be expected to operate the I/CAD Emergency Dispatch System, Radio and Telephony systems, working to set procedures to manage and deploy the available Ambulance, RRV, responders and resources within SCAS.

The successful applicant will join a team who at times have to work quickly and under pressure. You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. A high level of performance and attention to detail is an essential requirement.

Qualifications and Training


Essential criteria

* 4 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent qualifications or equivalent demonstrable ability.
* NVQ2/3 in Customer Care, Contact Centre Operations or Call Handling Operations OR must be willing to undertake other such qualifications supported by the Trust


Desirable criteria

* Evidence of self-development e.g. Continuing professional development portfolio
* NHS Pathways Licence


Knowledge & Experience


Essential criteria

* Demonstrable previous experience of working in an Emergency Communications Centre Call Centre, or equivalent.
* Demonstrable knowledge and experience of using Emergency Dispatch IT Systems, or equivalent.
* Experience of working with computerised telephone systems e.g. BCM or equivalent
