Role Purpose
To provide a high-quality Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) service for Adult Social Care, undertaking statutory duties under the Mental Health Act. The postholder will work flexibly across both Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and AMHP services, delivering assessments during office hours and out-of-hours as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake Approved Mental Health Professional duties in accordance with the Mental Health Act and associated legislation, guidance, and local policies.
* Coordinate and lead Mental Health Act assessments for adults experiencing mental health crises.
* Make independent professional decisions regarding detention, admission, and other statutory interventions where appropriate.
* Liaise effectively with service users, families, healthcare professionals, emergency services, and partner agencies.
* Complete all statutory documentation and maintain accurate records in line with legal and organisational requirements.
* Participate in office-hours and out-of-hours AMHP service provision, including rota arrangements where applicable.
* Work collaboratively within both the Community Mental Health Team and dedicated AMHP service.
* Provide limited social care input and casework support when required, although the primary focus of the role is AMHP duties.
Essential Requirements
* Qualified and currently warranted Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).
* Relevant professional registration (e.g. Social Work England or equivalent professional body).
* Significant experience undertaking Mental Health Act assessments and statutory AMHP duties.
* Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and relevant legislation.
* Ability to work independently and make complex decisions in high-pressure situations.
* Strong communication, assessment, and partnership-working skills.
Additional Information
* The role is predominantly focused on AMHP work for Adult Social Care.
* Some social care and case management responsibilities may be required but will be minimal.
* The role is based on the Isle of Wight and travel via ferry will be necessary as part of service delivery.
* Flexibility to work both during standard office hours and out-of-hours is required.
