Overview
DN Colleges Group is seeking an ambitious and motivated Team Leader to work with the Curriculum Leader, managing the operations within our Construction Apprenticeship department, developing and delivering high-quality vocational training and apprentice achievement. The role covers the full apprentice journey—from enrolment through to End-Point Assessment—ensuring excellent progress, strong retention, and high-grade outcomes. You will manage and support a team of tutors and assessors, implement timely interventions, and work closely with employers to align on-the-job and off-the-job training for a seamless experience. In collaboration with the Curriculum Lead, you will ensure workshop delivery and curriculum plans are innovative and meet the demands of today’s construction industry.
Responsibilities
* Team Management: Provide daily leadership to a team of vocational specialists, fostering a culture of high expectations and mutual support. Act as deputy during Curriculum Leader absence.
* Supporting curriculum planning and delivery.
* Operational Oversight: Manage the logistics of the construction hubs, ensuring health and safety compliance, resource efficiency, and effective timetabling (e.g., arranging class cover). Monitor and coach supervisees.
* Compliance & IQA: Lead the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) process to ensure the department remains Ofsted-ready and fully compliant with DfE/DWP funding rules.
* Performance Reporting: Monitor progress, attendance and achievement; ensure timely interventions. Use data-driven insights to monitor trends and report on achievement milestones to the Curriculum Leader.
* Represent the curriculum area at college meetings, working groups and events.
* Support recruitment, marketing and growth of apprenticeship provision.
* Provide clear evidence and specific examples of how you meet the requirements of this role in the Supporting Statement section of the application form.
* Driving Apprentice Achievement: Provide examples of strategies or interventions to improve learner retention, achievement rates, or EPA outcomes.
* Leadership and Team Management: Describe experience in supervising or leading a team of vocational staff and motivating colleagues to maintain high standards and meet targets.
* Curriculum Collaboration: Demonstrate collaboration with a Curriculum Lead to integrate practical workshop activities with theoretical schemes of work.
* Quality and Compliance: Detail experience with IQA and understanding of maintaining Ofsted-ready documentation and ESFA funding compliance.
* Employer Engagement: Give examples of managing relationships with construction employers to support apprentice progress or resolve delivery challenges.
* Industry Expertise: Outline how your vocational background and teaching qualifications prepare you to lead a multidisciplinary construction department.
* Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work with the Curriculum Lead to translate educational strategy into high-quality practical delivery.
Qualifications
* A Level 3 (or higher) vocational qualification in a Construction trade, alongside a recognized Teaching Qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed).
* Proven Leader: Experience in a supervisory or lead-assessor role, with demonstrated ability to motivate others and manage performance.
* Achievement Focused: Deep understanding of Apprenticeship Standards and a track record of driving high achievement and retention rates.
* Competencies: Collaborative mindset and ability to translate strategy into delivery.
