 
        
        Position Overview
Our Sous Chef plays a crucial role in our restaurant's kitchen operations for maintaining kitchen efficiency and food safety, ensuring food quality, and supporting the Head Chef's vision and responsibilities. This role also serves as a stepping stone for aspiring chefs aiming to become Head Chefs. Passionate about food, you bring experience working in a variety of high-volume, multi-service, and quality kitchens.
Responsibilities
 * Catering to residents across the Village which comprises a 60 bed care home, catering for residents in our 49 serviced suites, as well as providing excellent food to customers in our 80-seat table d'hote restaurant and 40 seat Café Bar.
 * Creating and adapting menus to suit our customers across varied food outlets, whilst reviewing menus on at least a quarterly basis. You will be familiar with food specifications and food costings to accompany such menu planning.
 * Managing all kitchen related duties such as budgeting, ordering, stock control, HACCP checks, preparation of food and disposal of waste food.
 * Working with other members of the hospitality team to ensure smooth delivery of service and advising the team on aspects of food handling related to their work.
 * Maintaining appropriate systems for the kitchen ensuring a smooth and safe service delivery and processes and procedures are followed, as well as equipment is managed and well maintained.
 * Ensuring all kitchen staff are trained, that kitchen duties are delegated accordingly and supporting with the recruitment and onboarding of staff for the catering department as required.
 * Assisting during the head chef's absence with tasks such as rotas, returns to work and supervisions of the kitchen team.
Qualifications
If you're passionate about food and have a minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a care home or hospitality setting within a professional kitchen, preferably serving customers with special dietary needs, you may be the perfect fit.
A solid understanding of health and safety protocols is essential, along with a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Catering and a CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Award, or an equivalent qualification or experience. You should be open to innovation, with a creative approach to cooking and the skill to craft nutritious, balanced, and appealing menus with new food products. A collaborative spirit and a positive communication style is key, as you'll be part of a team dedicated to providing an outstanding dining experience at every meal.
Permanent. Full time, 48 hours a week across 4 or 5 days, to include alternative weekends with very sociable shifts and only an occasional late evening, this post offers an excellent work-life balance, allowing you to dedicate time to both your professional passion and personal life.
