Clinical Lead (part-time, flexible)

BFB Labs is a social enterprise bringing together clinical excellence and digital technologies to enable better youth mental health.

bfb-labs.com

The role

We’re looking for a qualified Clinical Psychologist who can bring their experience of working with children and young people to lead on the clinical robustness with which we deliver our digital therapeutic interventions. This role is unique as it will inform every aspect of how we deliver value to children and families, and healthcare providers.

Responsbilities

We need a Clinical Lead who ensures that as we scale, we don’t lose the \"human\" in the code. You’ll be the voice of the user and the guardian of clinical integrity, making sure our tech actually works for the people who need it most.

* Keep us honest: You’ll vet every new advancement to ensure it’s clinically sound, ethical, and safe.
* Bridge the gap: Different teams will need your guidance on what to do and what not to do. This may include product, evaluation, service delivery and growth, marketing and strategy.
* Design for the real world: You’ll help us build interventions for people who need them most. This means rigorous safeguarding and risk-protocol design.
* Measure what matters: You’ll help us define what real benefit looks like in a digital context and help us prove our impact.
* Be the clinical voice: You’ll be our clinical voice for all inward and outward facing discussions.

What we're looking for:
* The Credentials: You’re a registered clinician (HCPC) who has spent enough time in the room with people seeking support to know what the 'real world' looks like.
* NHS experience is preferred, see our guidance on applying while you are working in the NHS at the bottom of this post.
* The Mindset: You’re frustrated with the status quo of mental health care and want to use technology to fix it—but you’re also skeptical of solutions that overpromise.
* The Agility: You’re comfortable with the messiness of a social enterprise. We’re building the plane while flying it, and we need you to help steer.

Diversity

As a diverse team we are keen to receive applications from people of all backgrounds, ages, and types of formal or informal education. We encourage applications from all across the UK. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Great things about working here
* Female-led and diverse company
* Driven, go-getting and values-based culture
* NICE recommended products
* Multi-award winning company
* Company previously backed by the NHS, Innovate UK and partnerships with NIHR funded medtech cooperative, and numerous academic institutions.

What we offer
* Flexible working arrangements for agreed number of hours
* Hybrid working with access to our workspace in Farringdon (Central London)

How to apply

To apply please send your CV with a brief note to manjul.rathee@bfb-labs.com explaining why you think you are suited to this role. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The application deadline is 1st March 2026. If you need any clarifications then please email on the address provided above.

If your application fits with the requirements of this role then we will organise an initial interview via Zoom/Teams. Further interviews may involve in person meetings. We will maintain a high level of confidentiality for all applicants.

Can I apply if I work at the NHS?

In the UK, it is extremely common for Clinical Psychologists to work part-time in the NHS (e.g., 3 or 4 days a week) and spend the rest of their time in private practice, academic research, or consulting for tech companies.

However, their NHS contract (usually under the \"Agenda for Change\" framework) and their professional registration (HCPC) impose three main conditions:

1. Conflict of Interest & \"The NHS Patient Rule\"

The most significant restriction is that a psychologist cannot see a patient privately if that patient is currently under their care in the NHS.

* The Rule: You cannot use your NHS position to \"recruit\" private clients.
* The Conflict: If a patient is on an NHS waiting list for your specific service, you generally cannot offer to see them privately to \"jump the queue.\"
2. Declaration of Secondary Employment

NHS employees are contractually required to declare any \"outside interests\" or secondary employment to their Trust.

* Approval: In practice, this is almost always a \"rubber stamp\" exercise unless the second job interferes with their NHS hours or poses a genuine conflict of interest (e.g., working for a direct competitor in a way that compromises their NHS duties).
* Working Time Regulations: The Trust must ensure the clinician isn't working so many total hours (across both jobs) that they become unsafe or breach the 48-hour weekly limit (unless they sign an opt-out).
3. Use of Resources

A clinician cannot use NHS resources for their other work. This includes:

* Using an NHS email address for private or tech-role correspondence.
* Using NHS laptop/software for non-NHS tasks.
* Conducting private sessions in an NHS clinic room without a formal room-rental agreement.
