Westmorland and Furness Council, Sustainable Transport and Highways, are looking for an experienced, motivated and friendly individual to join us as a Team Leader in Traffic Management, specialising in Road Safety. We are excited to offer this permanent opportunity covering the entire area of Westmorland and Furness Council, a large and thriving organisation.
In this pivotal role, you will lead a small team of traffic management professionals and collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to develop and progress road safety initiatives. Your role will involve designing and implementing strategies to enhance road safety and reduce traffic collisions, which directly supports the Councils objectives of reducing road traffic collisions on our highway network and contributing to an overall safer society.
There are also new projects and opportunities for the team to manage and support with Traffic Regulation Orders, through design and specifications whilst advising and giving technical advice on relevant guidance and legislation.
The work of the traffic team includes the preparation, design and processing of temporary and permanent traffic management schemes (including casualty reduction schemes and parking schemes), liaising with the public and stakeholders and working with colleagues both within the highways service and throughout the Council.
This is predominantly an office-based role with some site work / meetings, and you will be responsible for ensuring all works are undertaken in accordance with the relevant legislation and the Councils service procedures. You will represent the Council and promote a good relationship with the general public, members and stakeholders by providing advice and information concerning all aspects of traffic / road safety activities and related matters.
Who we are looking for…
We are looking for a confident communicator to provide technical input and guidance to colleagues. You will also provide advice on the application of legislation, regulation, policy and principles to both internal and external customers of the Council where appropriate. Awareness of construction contracts, traffic management activities and national design standards is desirable. You will be able to work under pressure, and be an effective team leader, helping to innovate and motivate throughout the wider team and service.
