Offer description

The North Pennines National Landscape Partnership is looking for a manager to complete the ground-breaking nature recovery and engagement programme, Tees-Swale – naturally connected. The delivery phase of this project began in 2020 and is now nearing completion. You will oversee the remaining delivery/reporting, final evaluation and legacy planning of the programme. This position is temporary until 30 September 2026. If you have an in-depth knowledge of conservation and a strong understanding of farmers and farming, can build and sustain relationships with people and organisations, and can manage a major NLHF programme, professional staff and complex budgets, then we’d like to hear from you. WHAT IS INVOLVED? Tees-Swale is led by the North Pennines National Landscape Partnership, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, and covers nearly 850km2 of outstanding Protected Landscape. The team is supported by a programme Board, chaired by Sir John Lawton. We aim to demonstrate how — by working in tandem with our High Nature Value farmers in particular — we can conserve, restore, expand and connect priority habitats on an unprecedented scale; at the same time, this work will deliver multiple other public benefits including climate change mitigation, flood-risk management and increasing people’s well-being. We encourage you to contact Chris Woodley-Stewart, Director North Pennines National Landscape via email at chris@northpennines.org.uk OR Gary Smith, Director of Conservation and Community, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority: gary.smith@yorkshiredales.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role. WHAT WILL I NEED? You should hold a degree or equivalent and have substantial experience of successfully managing complex multi-partner projects relating to the conservation of natural beauty or land management. You will be expected to travel throughout the programme area so the ability to drive is necessary to fulfill the role. Please refer to the attached Person Specification for the full criteria. INTERVIEWS Interviews will be held on Tuesday 2 December 2025. We operate a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants that can show they meet all the essential criteria and have indicated they have a disability, are a looked after young person, care leaver or a veteran. OUR OFFER TO YOU We offer a competitive rewards package that includes attractive salaries, a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days (rising to 32 after five years’ continuous local government service), membership of the excellent contributory career average Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of flexible working arrangements including hybrid working (home and office) where applicable. Explore the full range of rewards and benefits on our website (https://www.durham.gov.uk/article/26895/Rewards-and-benefits-if-you-work-for-us) Rewards and benefits are subject to individual terms and conditions.
