What's involved with this role: JOB TITLE: Town Planning Enforcement Officer REF: Richmond 8105-1 Pay rate: £18.85 per hour PAYE Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 months Working Arrangement: Assume office based as no hybrid working given Driving licence, Use of car for work purposes, Valid MOT and Car Insurance needed for this role The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer to assist in providing a high quality, customer-focused planning service by investigating alleged breaches of planning control, pursuing the most appropriate and effective action to remedy these, working closely with Development Management/ Conservation/ Policy planners and officers in other services. Key Responsibilities: Investigate alleged planning breaches in line with legislation, guidance, and Council policies. Record, acknowledge, and investigate all complaints about unauthorised development per procedures and standards. Interview complainants, neighbours, and property owners; take statements as needed. Liaise with other Council departments and external agencies to handle breaches effectively. Keep records of enforcement actions and related legal instructions. Prepare committee reports, briefings, and papers for senior officers and members. Negotiate with offenders to resolve planning breaches where possible. What the client is looking for: An RTPI-recognised degree level qualification in Town Planning or equivalent Sound basic knowledge of all relevant planning legislation, policies and procedures Experience of development control work or related planning work (ideally in planning enforcement) Experience of providing planning advice to developers and/or the public (inc. complainants and perpetrators) Experience of investigating more minor breaches of planning control and informally negotiating resolutions How to Apply Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
