Job Description
Your job is to be responsible for delivering project objectives and driving key policy relationships with stakeholders on innovation policy related to sustainable industry. You'll do this by building relationships with government, industry bodies, academics and startups, and working with various teams to deliver large scale projects related to transport, energy, sustainability, and industrial supply chains. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial problem solver, with a public affairs / public policy background, and a demonstrable passion for technology and innovation. This role will help to shape innovation strategies, developing proposals and briefs in emerging technologies that will benefit society, the economy and environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO (Duties)
* Lead on the development of policy relationships and delivery with central government and the wider political landscape. This will include gathering information, raising visibility of our work, mapping stakeholders such as DESNZ and DFT, developing relationships and seeding / aligning new policy ideas for strategy in innovation.
* Lead on the preparation of research and reports for the successful delivery of projects and programmes in critical infrastructure areas such as sustainability, energy, utilities and supply chains. This includes scoping and preparing market research and strategic insights in these areas, spanning primary and secondary evidence gathering - collating information from internal and external sources and playing a key editorial role in preparing the reports for the right audiences.
* Be a point of contact for assigned policy areas in industrial net zero, supply chains and critical infrastructure. This will include working with other teams across the organisation, and closely within the Strategy and External Affairs (SEA) team to identify policy challenges and helping to advise teams on how to scale their impact in innovation.
* Work towards strategic organisational goals. This will include working with the Director for Strategy & External Affairs to help set out the strategic goals of the team and bridge communication gaps both within the SEA Team and wider organisation.
Requirements
* A passion for technology innovation and positive change towards societal, economic and environmental goals.
* Strong experience in business and policy development in a public affairs environment
* Management experience of policy and/or research managers
* Strong understanding of key innovation and sustainable industry policy areas for the UK
* Understanding of emerging technology trends for digital (e.g. metaverse, VR/AR, artificial intelligence, 5G, blockchain, IoT, etc.)
* Experience building networks of policy contacts in the innovation and industrial policy areas in the UK
* Strong experience in writing policy briefs for different audiences, strong communication skills and a collaborative team player
* Strong experience in researching and writing longer form reports
* Experience in setting up strategic boards and working groups and undertaking a secretariat role.
