Cylindrical Grinder (Manual & CNC)Location: West Byfleet, Surrey (On-site)Salary: Competitive, dependent on experienceHours: Full-time, PermanentAbout the RoleA leading precision engineering manufacturer based in West Byfleet is seeking an experienced Cylindrical Grinder to join its growing production team. The company supplies high-precision components and assemblies to a diverse range of sectors including aerospace, defence, automotive, medical, oil & gas, and other advanced engineering industries.Continued investment in state-of-the-art machinery, manufacturing technology, and workforce development has created an excellent opportunity for a skilled grinder looking to develop their career within a modern and forward-thinking engineering environment.The successful candidate will initially focus on manual grinding operations, with a clear progression path into CNC cylindrical grinding as the business expands its capabilities. This role will involve producing high-precision components to exacting quality standards and tight tolerances.Key Responsibilities Set up and operate cylindrical, centreless, and surface grinding machines.
Perform external and internal grinding operations. Carry out honing operations where required. Grind components to tight tolerances, concentricity, roundness, and surface finish specifications.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Manufacture precision components including shafts, pins, bushes, and other critical features. Conduct in-process inspection using micrometers, bore gauges, comparators, and other precision measuring equipment.
Dress grinding wheels and select suitable tooling and processes. Maintain quality standards across both batch and one-off production work. Support the transition into CNC cylindrical grinding operations.
Assist with CNC grinder setup and operation using Fanuc or similar controls. Carry out routine machine maintenance as required. Work closely with production and quality teams to improve processes and resolve manufacturing issues.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment.Skills & Experience Required Previous experience in cylindrical grinding. Experience with surface and centreless grinding. Honing experience beneficial but not essential.
Strong understanding of precision engineering and finishing processes. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Experience working to tight tolerances and fine surface finish requirements.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.What's on Offer Competitive salary, dependent on experience. Overtime opportunities paid at 1.5x standard rate.
39-hour working week with a choice of shift patterns: 08:00-17:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:00-13:00 Friday 07:30-16:30 Monday to Thursday, 07:30-12:30 Friday 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service up to 25 days. Company sick pay scheme. Quarterly attendance bonus.
