The Opportunity

Are you looking for your next exciting career move? British Transport Police have an excellent opportunity for an Occurrence Management Unit (OMU) Team Manager to join the Contact Management Department. As an OMU Team Manager with BTP, you will provide strong leadership and expert oversight within the Occurrence Management Unit, acting as the force’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Occurrence Management in your role as a Dedicated Decision Maker (DDM). You will be responsible for reviewing, authorising, and where necessary declining requests for the reclassification or cancellation of crime, ensuring all decisions are accurate, consistent, and fully compliant with national standards and force policy.

You will lead the development of a centre of excellence for occurrence management, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of crime-related data held on Niche and PNC, while providing assurance across non-crime occurrences. Through visible leadership and support, you will guide OMU Operatives, promoting adherence to legislation and procedures, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining a high‑performing, professional team environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

* As the SME you will be responsible for crime recording standards in BTP and this will involve influencing behaviours for both FCC and officers of rank Inspector and above, including training, attending divisional meetings and providing direct feedback via the Change and Development Team within Contact Management.
* As a Dedicated Decision Maker (DDM) you will be required to review, analyse force crime data and make decisions on any requests received for a re‑classification or cancellation of crime for BTP.
* Assist in the identification and development of key strategic performance issues and opportunities that will impact on Occurrence Management, including the development of Key Performance Indicators for the unit.
* Required to attend internal and external crime‑related meetings to ensure the OMU is represented and any actions for change or improvement are implemented.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

* Proven experience in a crime management environment at an advisory level.
* Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of using the Police National Computer (PNC).
* Experience in stakeholder management including negotiating and influencing.
* Able to analyse, interpret and comment on internal and external reports and data.
* Working knowledge of National Crime Recording Standards, Home Office Counting Rules and Victim Codes of Practice.

What We Offer

* 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
* Family‑friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
* Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
* Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
* Interest‑free annual rail season ticket loan after 6 months.
* Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare and financial support.
* Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
* Excellent pension scheme: BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London, with contributions from 4.4% to 12% of your salary.
