About the Role We are seeking an experienced Building Control Surveyor to join our Operations Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will work as an internal consultant, overseeing compliance, technical standards and design assurance across more than 165 building assets. You will support both technical and non technical teams, ensuring our buildings meet all legislative requirements and industry best practice. What You'll Be Doing * Leading on Building Regulations, Building Act and fire safety compliance across the Port's estate. * Developing technical standards for maintenance, inspections and project activities. * Reviewing designs, plans, surveys and consultant reports to ensure compliance and quality. * Developing and maintaining building maintenance and intervention plans. * Managing and reviewing principal inspections, including consultant-delivered work. * Conducting your own inspections, identifying defects and recommending corrective actions. * Supporting the development of annual and multi-year maintenance budgets. * Preparing designs, specifications and drawings for building works. * Assessing contractors, consultants and suppliers against safety and quality requirements. * Acting as CDM Principal Designer when appointed. * Providing guidance on heritage buildings, including listed structures and scheduled monuments. * Contributing to sustainability initiatives, innovation and energy efficient solutions. * Delivering CPD and knowledge-sharing activities for the wider engineering team. About You We're looking for someone who can combine technical expertise with strong communication and problem solving skills. Essential * Degree in Building Surveying, Building Engineering or a related discipline. * Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2D minimum. * Professional membership (RICS, ABE, CABE or CIOB). * Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Building Act and fire safety legislation. * Experience in design reviews, plan checking, surveys and inspections across a range of building types. * Confident in interpreting and applying technical standards. * Experience working with ERP or document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Meridian). * Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
