We are a friendly rural GP practice located between Barnard Castle and Darlington, seeking a reliable, dynamic, flexible and organised Medical Administrator/Dispenser to join our team, following the upcoming retirement of our long-standing dispenser.
This vacancy is for 32 hours per week, worked on a part-time basis. Ideally the successful applicant will hold an NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services/Dispensing qualification but full training will be provided for the right applicant.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of our team. The surgery offers competitive rates of pay. Our qualified dispensers are paid £14.06 per hour and our medical administrators with no dispensing qualification are paid £13.23 per hour (The pay rates referenced are April 2026 pay rates). Other benefits include the NHS pension, birthday Holiday and birthday voucher and 27 days annual leave on appointment, increasing to 30 days after 5 years' service (pro rata).

Main duties of the job
The dispensing/admin team at Gainford Surgery play a vital role in supporting the clinical and administrative functions of the practice.
The clerical department ensures that all patients receive their prescribed medications safely, accurately and in a timely manner. It provides essential advice and guidance to patients on the use of medications, while working closely with GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals to support clinical care.
The team is responsible for maintaining accurate patient records, managing patient queries, managing stock levels and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, professional and NHS safety standards.
