Early Careers Advisor

You will support across our trainee and apprentice programmes, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders who support us with our programmes. A key part of your role will be identifying areas for improvement and innovation, to ensure we deliver a best‑in‑class training and development programme for our EC populations and ways to support Generation Z in a new hybrid world. The landscape is constantly evolving and so innovative thinking, trialling new ideas to differentiate the firm will be key. Additionally, diversity and social justice must be at the forefront of our thinking, so this lens will be key when considering our pathways.
You will be involved in the various cyclical processes which make up our EC programmes such as future trainee onboarding, trainee induction, seat rotation planning, appraisal process and qualification, taking a leading role in the planning and implementation of these. Ensuring that we provide a top‑class experience to our EC populations and key stakeholders and see a strong retention rate at the point of qualification.
This role will support programmes across the following E&W offices (Bristol, Guildford, London, Manchester) as well as supporting with the ongoing integration of our Scottish and Irish EC populations. In total we recruit approximately 55 trainee solicitors each year and approximately 20 graduate solicitor apprentices on our Casualty Qualification Pathway (CQP) each year. We also support a small population of school leaver solicitor apprentices.
The role will report into the Early Careers Development Manager and will work closely with our EC Senior Advisor and EC Senior Coordinator. The team works closely with our Training Principal, EC Recruitment team and L&D team, as well as our HRBPs and HRPs and other key stakeholders from the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing our future trainee onboarding and engagement process, ensuring we are providing a positive onboarding experience for all new joiners. This includes regular reviews of our training programmes, liaising with this population to understand themes and any issues from ‘check‑in’ conversations and ensuring these are fed into the ECD Manager and EC Programme Lead.
* Working closely with our EC Programme Lead to plan and prepare for our trainee induction. Thinking about key learning needs for this population and how we can provide an innovative and engaging entry point.
* Supporting the EC Senior Advisor and ECD Manager and relevant HR Partners to understand junior resourcing needs and assist with future workforce planning.
* Responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of our 6‑monthly seat rotation process, including the coordination of client and international secondments. Working closely with the EC Senior Advisor and ECD Manager on more complex resourcing needs.
* Overseeing the EC coordinator on core processes such as appraisals, training record logs and trainee pastoral support.
* Holding regular check‑in conversations with trainees, apprentices and supervisors to understand key themes and issues raised around the learning experience. Ensuring these are fed into L&D, the ECD manager and the HR Business Partners as required.
* Working closely with our EC Senior Advisor and EC Programme Lead on providing training to our trainees/apprentices/supervisors. Supporting on identifying new training requirements as required.
* Being a key contact for our trainees and apprentices, providing day‑to‑day support on a range of HR issues, escalating to the EC Senior Advisor/Manager as required and working closely with the HRBPs and HRPs as needed.
* Implementing 360 feedback loop with trainees, apprentices and supervisors to evaluate the candidate and stakeholder experience across our EC pathways. Working closely with EC Senior Advisor to continuously review and implement process changes or initiatives as required and looking for opportunities to provide a best‑in‑class training experience.
* Overseeing the EC coordinator with all SRA processes and documents relating to the trainee cycle.
* Supporting on the trainee qualification process, working closely with EC Coordinator, EC Senior Advisor, ECD Manager, HR Partners and HR Business Partners to coordinate all aspects of the process.
* Support EC Senior Advisor in overseeing Senior Coordinator on tracking all ECD costs throughout the year.
* Provide support on any Early Careers Development and broader HR projects as required and assist with any Early Careers Recruitment initiatives and projects as required.
* Any other tasks as reasonably requested by the Training Principal and ECD Manager.
Relationship Management
* Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across the firm, specifically HR Partners, HRBPs, trainees and apprentices.
* Support EC Senior Advisor in ownership of relationship with law school provider.
* Proactive network building with other Early Careers professionals and regular attendance at network meetings to understand market updates and feedback to the business.
* Day to day contact with Early Careers Development team members and frequent contact with Early Careers Recruitment and Employer Brand team to ensure processes are aligned.
* Develop a deep understanding of the firm’s strategy, brand and department talent and training requirements.
Projects
* Supporting the ECD Manager and EC Senior Advisor on the continued implementation of SQE within the business.
* Working with the ECD Manager and EC Senior Advisor on various change‑management, process improvement and CR&I projects within the firm.
