JOB SUMMARY
Advanced Control Room Operator responsible for monitoring and operating controls in the centralized control room of the Power Plant. Ensures optimal operating conditions by observing equipment parameters and managing the loading and operation of generating units and associated equipment.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
* Responsibilities are varied and complex. Often works outside assigned duties. Applies advanced skills across multiple areas. Resolves complex issues impacting business operations inside and outside own department. Makes unreviewed decisions with significant influence on policy and strategy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Contributes to data collection and potential solutions.
* Provides expert feedback and participates in the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) process.
* Monitors, operates, and checks equipment.
* Provides feedback for changes to the welding quality assurance manual.
* Directs activities of contractors and vendors as needed.
* Acts as subject matter expert, coaching and mentoring less experienced team members.
* Evaluates project progress and manpower performance, reporting to supervisors or project managers.
* Provides technical management for operations projects.
* Operates the plant from the Control Room, including auxiliary operations as needed, without supervision.
* Acts as a lead and fills in as Acting Supervisor when required.
* Acts as Operating Authority as needed.
* Performs general craft tasks, operates industrial equipment, and uses power tools.
* Repairs, inspects, and maintains boiler, turbine/generator auxiliaries, and fuel supply equipment.
* Collaborates with other craft and plant personnel.
* Reads and interprets drawings and prints.
* Utilizes SAP/PM system for equipment history and work verification.
* Maintains logs, records data, and communicates plant conditions verbally.
* Follows all safety and environmental regulations.
* Creates templates and executes clearance procedures.
* Identifies abnormal equipment operations.
* Assists in training and mentoring less experienced team members.
* Monitors and analyzes boiler and cooling water chemistry tests, taking corrective actions as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
* Associate's degree in a technical discipline with 7 years' experience in a technical field; or
* High School Diploma/GED with 9 years' experience in a technical field; or
* Military service for at least one enlistment with 8 years' experience in a technical field; or
* High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of direct plant experience at the same Power Plant, including 1 year as a Control Room Operator, with management approval.
* Technical certification from a vocational institution is equivalent to 1 year of experience.
* Experience must include 5 years in a power plant or process-controlled environment, including oil/gas/chemical refining or manufacturing, and 2 years as a qualified control room operator.
WORKING CONDITIONS
* Frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
* Occasionally sit; frequently push, carry, walk, stand, reach, and stoop.
* May work in confined spaces, at heights, underground, and in extreme weather conditions.
* May require travel and non-standard schedules.
* Must wear PPE and respond to call-outs, including weekends and holidays.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with mechanical equipment.
* Proficiency in MS Office and SAP/PM systems.
* Strong understanding of safety protocols, plant systems, and troubleshooting.
* Effective communication and leadership skills, with ability to work independently.
