HGV Mechanic / HGV Technician
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV Mechanic to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing heavy goods vehicles and associated equipment to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, diagnostic skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and trailers.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.

Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and ensure all work meets regulatory standards.
*
Perform repairs including brakes, suspension, engines, gearboxes, clutches, and steering components.
*
Use diagnostic equipment and specialist tools to identify vehicle faults.
*
Complete safety inspections and ensure vehicles meet roadworthiness requirements.
*
Accurately complete job cards, service records, and inspection reports.
*
Maintain high standards of health and safety within the workshop.
*
Keep the work area clean, organised, and compliant with safety procedures.
*
Work collaboratively with other technicians and workshop staff to ensure efficient workflow.
HGV mechanics are typically responsible for servicing fleets, diagnosing faults with specialised tools, carrying out repairs, and maintaining accurate records of work completed to ensure vehicles remain safe and compliant.
Skills and Experience

Proven experience working as an HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician.
*
Strong understanding of heavy vehicle mechanical systems.
*
Ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently.
*
Experience with vehicle diagnostics and workshop equipment.
*
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
*
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
*
Good communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications (Preferred)
*
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
*
Previous experience working on commercial vehicles or fleet maintenance.
*
Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
*
IRTEC accreditation or manufacturer training is beneficial.
Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and experience with commercial vehicles are commonly required for HGV technicians
