Principal Geotechnical Design Engineer
Position: Permanent
Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum.
Location: Durham OR North Yorkshire OR West Yorkshire – Hybrid working, 2 days from home.
We are a design consultancy in the North‑East, recruiting a Principal Geotechnical Design Engineer to act as technical lead, manage an engineering team, and deliver high‑quality geotechnical solutions on infrastructure, built environment, and property development projects.

Responsibilities
* Develop and review geotechnical designs, calculations, and reports
* Oversee geological and geotechnical reports and scheme design drawings, along with geotechnical risk assessments
* Ensure compliance with local and international standards, including Eurocodes, British Standards and CIRIA reports
* Act as Technical Lead on single and multidisciplinary teams for medium to large‑scale projects
* Manage budgets, schedules and deliverables
* Contribute to planning and feasibility stages
* Mentor and develop team members, conducting training sessions and knowledge‑sharing initiatives
Requirements
* Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer status
* Substantial senior‑level geotechnical design experience, including embedded retaining walls, gravity walls, soil nails, rock anchor systems and remedial solutions for land‑slip remediation sites
* Experience on major infrastructure or resource projects within consultancies
* Advanced knowledge of soil mechanics, rock and soil engineering, ground improvement, retaining‑wall design and geotechnical software
* Full UK driving licence
* Innovative problem‑solving for challenging ground conditions
* Familiarity with geotechnical codes and standards
