Microbiologist
Job description
The function of the department is to analyse sterile and non-sterile products and materials to determine quality. This position works with supervision and will provide basic technical tasks as required to the laboratory facility in Microbiology Departments.
Objectives
The Microbiologist should perform microbiological analysis and:
1. Be aware of the safety implication of operations within working environment ensuring compliance with working practices and procedures
2. Be aware of regulatory requirements ensuring compliance with working practices and procedures
3. Co-operate as necessary with the audit team(s) to ensure that the audit process is effective, efficient and achieves its objectives
4. Comply with all procedures of the QMS
5. Complete documentation as directed by procedure
6. Report faults/process failure and report complex faults or take appropriate remedial action

Safety:
7. Safety procedures always followed
8. Correct use of PPE
Documentation:
9. Full, neat, accurate, and in a timely manner completion of documentation
10. Prompt and correct reporting of deviations from SOP
11. Good housekeeping and cleanliness
Quality Assurance:
12. Maintain the laboratory in an audit ready condition
13. Provide appropriate information in a timely manner
14. Comply with SOPs
15. Discrepancies always raised
Laboratory analysis:
16. Instructions followed precisely and outcome reported
17. Agreed deadlines met
18. Identify and report when objective is not feasible
19. Report all failures in a timely manner
20. Report all remedial action
21. Perform routine microbiological analysis in accordance with current BP/EP/USP and client test methods
22. Order laboratory consumables to ensure ready supply above minimum stock levels
23. Perform routine microbiology laboratory analysis of a range of pharmaceutical forms;
24. Microbial Limit Testing according to current EP/USP requirements
25. Sterility testing
26. Organism identification by gram stain and Vitek2
27. Antibiotic assay
28. Bacterial endotoxin testing using turbidimetric method
29. Water testing
30. Media preparation
31. Preservative efficacy testing of pharmaceutical products
32. Perform non-standard laboratory analysis as required: Environmental monitoring
Disinfectant challenge testing using BSEN test methods
33. Investigation of OOT/OOS results
34. Achieve level of accuracy required
35. Report analysis results
36. Maintain laboratory equipment log books
37. Perform daily and weekly housekeeping activities
