Overview

Registered Managers in Rotherham will:

* Provide leadership and management of childrens homes in the borough
* Ensure homes comply with all standards and legislative requirements
* Provide opportunities for children and young people to influence the decisions that affect them and the service they receive
* Promote a therapeutic approach with both children and young people and staff
* Foster a commitment to continuous growth and development for their staff team
* Work systemically with a range of agencies to ensure a joined-up service centred on the child
* Monitor and develop standards in line with Childrens Home Regulations and work towards ensuring all homes being Good or Outstanding

About the opportunity

Rotherham Council has made a strategic decision to invest in childrens residential services to place Looked After Children closer to their communities, family and schools. The role is to lead new models of residential intervention focused on small, family-like homes with an aim to step down to family-based options wherever possible.

The post requires experience of dual registering two childrens homes or the capacity to step up to dual registration.


Main duties / Responsibilities

To act as the Registered Manager of a residential home for children and young people and to ensure that high quality care within the homes is provided and maintained. To contribute to the protection and safeguarding of children at all times. To promote education, health and wellbeing of Children and Young People.

About you / Qualifications & Experience

Essential qualifications

* Level 7 qualification e.g. Post Graduate Certificates and Diplomas, or Level 6 qualification e.g. Bachelor Degrees, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas; plus post qualifying experience
* Or evidence of the equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or the equivalent, or will have completed within 2 years of starting in the role. Failure to complete within 2 years may impact employment.

Essential experience

* Substantial experience of working and managing in a social care setting with children and young people
* Knowledge and experience of law and practice relating to looked after children and the Children’s Act
* Knowledge of best practice and relevant research in child placement services
* Knowledge of Restorative and trauma-informed practice
* Good knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations and safeguarding frameworks
* Experience at a senior management level in a residential setting
* Experience of working with children, young people and families with complex needs
* Experience of staff management and supervision
* Experience of budget management
* Experience of working in partnership with other agencies, children and young people and parents
* Experience of performance management and quality assurance systems
* Experience of carrying out audits/checks and implementing improvements
* Knowledge of local authority processes, policies and procedures
* Proficiency with ICT systems and applications
