The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) manages important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You will support and learn from colleagues while analysing and improving the data that underpins our work.
The Technical Advisor helps manage these systems and data, providing support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, and will also support other systems and data as needed. Working closely with team members, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
* Set up and manage users
* Support users and resolve issues, especially as we move to our new My Environment application
* Update, improve and maintain datasets
* Respond to internal and external data requests
* Support system improvement and upgrade projects

Experience / Skills Required
* Experience working with large, complex datasets
* Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills and apply them across our monitoring data and systems
* Motivated, organised, friendly and helpful, with an eye for detail, comfortable working in a dispersed team environment
* Proactive and enjoys solving problems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service
* Experience of using and managing environmental monitoring data systems (desirable)
* Experience of using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R (desirable)
* Working knowledge of water quality monitoring (desirable)
Contact and Additional Information
Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and maintain a presence there. We offer a hybrid home/office arrangement, though some travel is expected for meetings.
We expect to hold interviews via MS Teams towards the end of December / beginning of January. Interview dates for invited candidates will be confirmed in due course.
An apprenticeship is available for the role for the successful candidate.
