Pharmacy Technician Medicines Administration

We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro‑active Pharmacy Technician with excellent problem solving skills who is self‑motivated and organised, to work as a part of the team at HRI involving medicines administration and medicines optimisation. The role will involve providing a clinical pharmacy and medication administration service to the Acute Floor at HRI. You need to be comfortable administering to all patients in this group. You will be based on the ward for the majority of the time, administering medication and supporting the discharge process and flow of medication in the ward. This is an exciting opportunity, to learn new skills and really become part of the ward team. This is an exciting and innovative role which will enable you to develop more patient focused skills. Appropriate training and support will be provided, and you will be able to provide input into how the role develops, as well as helping to collect and present data to show the benefits of expanding pharmacy into new areas. You must be an excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills. You will need to be forward thinking and enthusiastic, with a commitment to continuing professional development.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen to become part of the Acute Floor team based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The role will involve administering medicines to this cohort of patients and managing the hospital workload under the direction of the hospital pharmacy team. You will also undertake high level ward based duties including medicines reconciliation, controlled drug audits, counselling patients, training and mentorship of colleagues. The role requires an enthusiastic self‑motivated technician to provide excellent seamless care to our patients. The applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a small team as well as independently.
Responsibilities
• Administration of medicines to patients on the Acute Floor.
• Medicines reconciliation and controlled drug audits.
• Counselling patients and providing medication education.
• Training and mentorship of colleagues.
• Collection and presentation of data to demonstrate benefits of expanded pharmacy services.
Qualifications and Experience
Summary of Qualifications and Skills required:
* Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ) or equivalent qualification.
* Registered Pharmacy Technician, with significant post qualification experience.
* Good verbal and written command of English.
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* Good communication/interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrates a caring, compassionate and empathetic approach to work.
* Ability to plan own time, use own initiative and act independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills.
* Contributed to the implementation of changes in service, products and/or systems.
* Capable of working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Computer literate.
Qualifications/Training
* GCSE (or equivalent) grades A*-‑C in Maths and English.
* Evidence of ongoing training and development.
* NVQ level 2 or above in Business Administration or Customer Service (or equivalent).
* Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role.
* IT‑related qualifications (e.g. ECDL, RSA II, MS Office training) or equivalent experience.
* Any NHS or HEI system training (ESR, placement systems).
Knowledge, Experience and Expertise
* Ability to prioritise tasks and workload and respond to changing requirements.
* Experience of working in an office environment providing administrative support.
* Confident using digital systems (E.g. MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel).
* Able to demonstrate experience in collating and reporting data.
* Able to maintain accurate records with an understanding of confidentiality and data Protection (GDPR).
* Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, sharing information appropriately to support smooth service delivery.
* Use own initiative and awareness of limitation of the role.
* Experience of working in the NHS or HEI in a similar role.
* Familiarity with NHS administrative systems (ESR, E‑rostering, placement systems).
Communication and Relationships (Including Management Responsibilities)
* Excellent communication/customer care skills both written and verbal including emails, notes and updates.
* Able to liaise professionally with colleagues/learners at all levels and collaborate across a range of HEIs, teams, and services.
* Confident in handling telephone, email, and face‑to‑face enquiries in a calm and courteous manner.
* Able to maintain professionalism when dealing with sensitive, confidential, or emotionally charged situations.
* Flexible and adaptable approach.
* Ability to adapt communication style for different audiences, including learners, clinical staff, and external partners.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 per annum pro rata.
