Job summary

The AI Policy team is newly established to explore the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence brings to the UK’s world‑leading creative and cultural sector. AI is a top priority for the Government, and we work across departments including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, HM Treasury and No. 10.

Our mission is to support innovation while ensuring that creators, creative businesses and cultural institutions can thrive in a rapidly changing digital landscape. We work across government, industry, and the research community to understand how AI is shaping areas such as film, music, publishing, games, and across all creative industries and the cultural sector.

A key area of our work involves the implications of AI for copyright and intellectual property. We work across government and industry to shape a fair and future‑proof framework that protects creative rights while enabling technological progress.

Alongside the work on copyright, the team also supports the Government's AI Opportunities Action Plan and works to establish a Creative Content Exchange to be a trusted marketplace for selling, buying, licensing, and enabling permitted access to digitised cultural and creative assets.

The Creative Content Exchange will be a trusted marketplace for selling, buying, licensing, and enabling permitted access to digitised cultural and creative assets. Key early work will include ensuring project has the resources and approvals in pace to bring in experts, to support an innovative delivery architecture and to secure necessary funding.

The Head of AI Opportunities will also lead the team to work with analysts, the DCMS Chief Scientific Adviser and colleagues across government to build the evidence based for potential interventions to support Creative Industries and associated economic impact.

The role is part of a job share with the current Head of AI opportunities and will provide leadership to the DCMS AI opportunities team of 5 and to the wider DCMS AI team.
