Overview
The Environmental Compliance and Ground Engineering group with RPS is growing. We need a consultant grade geotechnical engineer who is ambitious to develop their career further. You will work on exciting projects across the UK, with a range of colleagues providing support and guidance to help you achieve your potential. The ECGE team provides ground engineering consultancy support throughout the development lifecycle. There are opportunities to apply your experience on ground investigations and earthworks projects, providing interpretative advice and design to a growing client base.

What You Will Be Doing
* The staff member will need to be flexible in work location with periods on site away from the main office.
* Recognisable experience in undertaking ground investigation, earthworks supervision and both factual and interpretative reporting. Comfortable working alone and as part of a team. Ideally with the following experience:
* Geotechnical data assessment, analysis, geotechnical design, risk assessment modelling and reporting
* Phase 1 geotechnical and geoenvironmental desk studies
* Phase 2 Ground investigation procurement, supervision, field logging and sampling, monitoring, factual and interpretative reporting
* Undertaking geotechnical design calculations related to preliminary design of foundations, slopes and earthworks
* Supervising and monitoring earthworks or geotechnical projects for infrastructure and land development; experience in Construction Quality Assurance monitoring and validation reporting in the waste or land development sector is advantageous
* Understanding of engineering geology and geotechnics
* Plan and manage own project work to meet client requirements and deadlines in line with QA system
* Respond to technical queries professionally and timely
* Take accountability for own contribution and delivery on projects
* Help grow our business by strengthening relationships with existing clients and supporting expansion into new markets
* Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge
Who We Are Looking For
* With some initial experience in the UK sector, you’ll be familiar with what we’re looking for.
* Geotechnical engineering professional with early experience in technical delivery of geotechnical investigation, engineering design and reporting, with knowledge of current methods, legislation, techniques and guidance.
* Broad knowledge of geotechnical data assessment, analysis, geotechnical design, risk assessment modelling and reporting within the UK. Experience in geoenvironmental (contaminated land) investigation is advantageous for multi-faceted projects.
* Some experience and understanding of EC7 geotechnical design including earthworks, foundations, settlement, and slope stability analysis.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
* Good understanding of UK geology and geotechnical/soil mechanics principles
* Practical experience of site investigation and laboratory techniques
* Understanding or experience of geotechnical design of foundations, slope stability, and earthworks; experience with basic geotechnical design software
* Experience of site investigation techniques and soil/rock logging, factual and interpretive reporting
* MS Office, use of Holebase/Open Ground, other design software; AutoCAD proficiency is advantageous
* Enthusiastic team player willing to work on site and in the office
* Willingness to learn and expand experience
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to build strong working relationships with team, clients and external bodies
* Willingness to learn and develop understanding of financial and project management techniques relevant to the role
* Commitment to building knowledge of the technical discipline including current methods, legislation, techniques and guidance
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
Qualifications
* Relevant degree or equivalent in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering with modules in Soil Mechanics or Geology and Maths
* Working towards Chartered membership of the relevant professional body
