Lead Research Healthcare Scientist, Molecular Haematology (SIHMDS-Haematology) - 5-year, fixed term post (Agenda for Change, Band 8a pay scale).
* Support the Lead Healthcare Scientist in Molecular Haematology with training of scientific and support staff on new translational tests.
* Lead, together with the Consultant Clinical Scientist, Band 8 LHS, and senior laboratory team, on translational test improvements.
* Develop an environment that promotes continuous research collaboration.
* Initiate, organise, and participate in developing emerging monitoring strategies for regulatory data and publication.
* Develop or apply novel molecular characterisation strategies for gene-modified cell therapies using techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9, base, and prime editing.
* Present research findings to relevant research groups and project leads.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of recent developments in Haematology and related fields.
* Ensure the development and operation of high-level specialist molecular investigations.
* Collaborate on translational test improvements with the senior team.
* Review and assist scientific staff with integrating new procedures and policies related to Quality Assurance of novel tests.
* Ensure compliance with error reporting protocols.
This is a unique opportunity for a qualified Research Healthcare Scientist with significant experience in molecular characterisation strategies for gene-modified cell therapies, ideally with CRISPR/Cas9, base, and prime editing technologies. Experience with post-gene therapy patient monitoring and development of novel testing strategies is advantageous. The role involves leading translational research within the clinical laboratory, collaborating closely with research groups at the Institute of Child Health and beyond, and training staff for the integration of novel tests into routine workflows. Applicants must hold a PhD.
