We are seeking a R&D Technician with a strong emphasis on engineering to support our R&D team by preparing, assembling, testing, and performing quality checks on electrochemical cells. You will work closely with engineers, scientists, and fellow technicians, helping to ensure consistent, high‑quality results.
SuperDielectrics (SD) is pioneering a breakthrough battery technology designed for the high‑power markets of the future, supporting the global shift to electrification. Our water‑based batteries deliver market‑leading performance through a novel polymer separator, combined with zinc halide electroactive species and carbon‑based porous electrodes.
To accelerate commercialisation, SD operates a fully integrated product development model - from advanced materials through to cells, modules and packs - underpinned by in‑house battery management systems.
Reporting to the Head of Technical Operations and working closely with the Scale‑Up and Deployment Team, you will be a vital contributor to reach our operational goals. Key responsibilities
* Responsible for preparing cell raw materials including electrodes, electrolytes and polymer membranes by following SOPs.
* Responsible for assembling, inspecting and preparing electrochemical cells, cell stacks and associated hardware in accordance with established SOPs.
* Support electro‑mechanical and functional testing using defined protocols and disassemble cells in a timely manner for post‑test analysis.
* Operate workshop and fabrication equipment including milling, drilling, and similar machine tools for component modification, tooling and fixture preparation.
* Participate in prototype build and planning activities bringing continuous process and quality improvements.
* Perform routine quality checks, stock checks, equipment maintenance and calibrations, fault diagnosis and repairs, and maintain accurate records.
* Collaborate in a team‑focused, trustworthy environment that values ethics, respect, and open communication.
* Perform repetitive tasks with high accuracy and consistency.
* Champion safe working practices, ensuring the highest standards of H&S and laboratory/workshop housekeeping are maintained at all times and set a good example for other colleagues.
Are you the ideal candidate?
* Equivalent practical experience in production, QC, laboratories, cleanrooms and/or workshops.
* Comfortable working with machine tools such as milling and drilling, and conduct periodic maintenance.
* Technical, laboratory, or engineering‑related qualification (A‑level, vocational, or equivalent practical experience).
* Experience following procedures (SOPs) in GMP, GLP, QC, or production environments.
* Strong manual skills and attention to detail.
* Comfortable performing repetitive tasks with high accuracy.
* Basic computer skills (Excel, Word).
