Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Day Shift Control Room Operator to join our vehicle recovery operation. This is a fast-paced role responsible for managing live recovery jobs received from motoring organisations and allocating them efficiently to drivers and technicians on the road.
A good understanding of the motor / transport industry is essential, as you will need to decide which vehicle and team member is best suited to each job based on capability, location and availability.
Key Responsibilities
* Accepting recovery jobs from motoring organisations
* Allocating jobs to drivers and technicians based on location, capability and workload
* Managing live job flows throughout the day and adjusting allocations as needed
* Monitoring job progress and vehicle locations via GPS
* Updating customers with ETAs, including delays where applicable
* Responding to customer calls requesting job updates
* Liaising with motoring organisations
* Ensuring jobs are allocated cost-effectively, minimising unnecessary mileage and fuel usage
* Maintaining performance standards and response times
* Completing a clear handover to the night shift at the end of your shift
* Working closely with the wider control room and operations team
Requirements
* Previous experience in transport planning, dispatch or job allocation (essential)
* Knowledge of the motor / vehicle recovery industry
* Ability to manage a high volume of live jobs in a fast-paced environment
* Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
* Excellent telephone manner and clear communication skills
* Confident using IT systems, GPS tracking and dispatch software
* Able to work well as part of a team
Desirable
* Familiarity with Apex Networks (strong advantage)
* Experience in vehicle recovery, roadside assistance or similar operations
This role is similar to job allocation in a taxi or logistics operation, but involves larger vehicles with different capabilities, including service vans for roadside repairs and recovery vehicles of varying sizes.

* Day shift: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm
