We’re looking for confident, proactive Youth Support Workers to join a KS3–KS4 Pupil Referral Unit in Caerphilly. About the PRU It’s a lovely little base in Caerphilly with a genuinely supportive team. You’ll be joining a small, dedicated staff group working within a nurturing and inclusive Pupil Referral Unit. The team is committed to helping every student re-engage with learning, develop positive behaviour, and build the confidence they need to succeed. Your Role As a Youth Support Assistant, you’ll be a key part of the team supporting young people aged 11–16 who present with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Your role combines mentoring, behaviour management, and classroom support — helping students build trust, stay focused, and reach their potential. You’ll: • Support teaching staff with classroom management and lesson delivery • Build positive, consistent relationships with students based on respect and trust • Use de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches to manage behaviour • Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive communication • Encourage participation in both academic and vocational activities • Act as a role model — demonstrating patience, consistency, and empathy every day Experience working in a PRU, alternative provision, or behaviour support setting is desirable — but not essential. A background in sports, care, youth leadership, or coaching is equally valuable.
