Consultant Psychiatrist at Integrated Outreach Team (IOT)

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and committed Consultant to join our established Integrated Outreach Team (IOT) as a full‑time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist. The role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive multidisciplinary team focused on complex mental health disorders.


Job Responsibilities

As Consultant Psychiatrist in the Integrated Outreach Team you will:

* Lead clinical assessments, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary reviews for adults with complex mental health needs.
* Conduct outpatient clinics, home visits, tribunal reporting, and emergency assessments under the Mental Health Act.
* Provide supervision to junior doctors and nurse prescribers.
* Contribute to service development, teaching, audit, and quality improvement.
* Dedicate time for CPD and leadership responsibilities.

Prerequisites

Applicants should have a higher qualification in psychiatry (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent) and be included on or be eligible for inclusion on the GMC's Specialist Register. Specialty Registrars within 6 months of attainment of CCST at the time of interview are eligible to apply. Applicants will need to be both AC and S12 approved at the time of the interview, or be fully eligible for approval.


Right to Work in the UK

Applicants who require a visa may be considered if the role is eligible for sponsorship under the Trust's criteria. Applicants must confirm the right to work and reside in the UK before appointment and notify the manager of any changes thereafter.


Person Specification


Knowledge & Skills

* Effective leadership skills.
* Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and carers.
* Ability to supervise junior staff.
* Awareness of NHS funding arrangements and recent developments.
* Ability to interpret published research and apply findings to clinical practice.
* Experience in service development and/or reconfiguration.
* Practical research experience.
* Sympathetic to the Trust's mission.


Training & Qualifications

* Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (ST6 trainees within six months of attainment at interview) or CESR equivalent.
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion.
* Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approval and Approved Clinician status.
* MD or other professional qualification (e.g., MSc).


Experience

* Experience in General Adult Psychiatry.
* Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective.
* Experience to a level allowing recognition of trainer status by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of clinical governance principles.
* Practical experience of clinical audit.
* Ability to use and appraise clinical evidence.
* Teaching and presentation experience (e.g., conference presentations, EBM, research).


Other

* Effective leadership in a multidisciplinary team.
* Understanding of multidisciplinary service provision and the care programme approach.
* Collaboration with service users to promote recovery.
* Sensitivity to needs of different ethnic and minority groups.
* Awareness of gender issues in service provision.
* Highly effective communication skills.
* Participation in continuous professional development.
