Job Overview
This is a 24-month fixed‑term training contract for a Pharmacy Technician. The training post provides the opportunity to gain the experience and qualification(s) needed to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Salary
Initially Annex 21 Band 4 – 70%, progressing to 75% after 12 months.
Job Duties
* Dispense medicines for in‑patients and out‑patients
* Purchase, distribute and stock medicines
* Support ward‑based work
* Rotational placement between Wrexham Maelor Hospital and Primary Care & Community Services pharmacy departments
Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.
Eligibility
* Not considered if already holding a Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services, NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or an equivalent qualification.
* Proof of qualifications required.
* Completion of Essential Skills Wales Digital Literacy Level 2 is required if not already held.
Training Programme
Two‑year modern apprenticeship: 37.5 hours a week in a pharmacy, with work‑based assessment, online learning, study days and group work. The programme follows GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals and requires commitment to studying outside working hours.
Qualifications – Essential
* Minimum of 4 GCSEs A‑C (new grades 9‑4) including English, Maths and Science
* GCSE English Grade C/Level 4 or above
* GCSE Maths Grade C/Level 4 or above
* One GCSE Science Grade C/Level 4 or above
Qualifications – Desirable
* NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services
* Evidence of academic study and continuing professional development after leaving school
* Experience working in hospital and/or community pharmacy, or within the NHS
* Ability to speak Welsh
* Knowledge of pharmacy services and the role of a pharmacy technician
