Volunteering with St John Ambulance strengthens communities. From youth support and education to wellbeing, events, and fundraising; your time makes a real impact.
At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education.
We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities, and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid at local events and provide education to the public to grow the ripple effect of First Aid.
By supporting community partnerships, you will engage people in our cause, grow our membership and fundraising, and spread the message that First Aid Saves Lives.
Volunteering as a Community First Aider offers a sense of satisfaction and pride in delivering an essential service. It’s beneficial for you, your community, and our nation, requiring only a small time commitment.
We will provide a proper induction, training for your role, and a supportive environment. Details about volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions, along with our volunteer charter outlining mutual expectations.
Our network covers the East Kent area — Dover, Canterbury, and Thanet — mainly in local areas. We are currently accepting new volunteers from Canterbury and Dover eastwards. Volunteers will need to undergo a DBS check and complete e-learning modules. To become a Community First Aider, candidates must attend a 2-day face-to-face training, plus ongoing training opportunities, and commit to 80 volunteering hours annually across the network.
After your interview, screening, and DBS check, you will complete a two-day First Aid course over two weekends, online training, and receive mentorship from experienced volunteers. To maintain and develop your skills and cover events in East Kent, a commitment of 80 hours of volunteering is expected, excluding weekly training nights.
The closing date for applications is 15/08/2025.
