Job Purpose
The Foundry Works Manager is responsible for leading, motivating, and developing the foundry workforce to deliver safe, efficient, high-quality production. This role places a strong emphasis on people leadership — building capable teams, fostering a positive work culture, and driving engagement — while also overseeing day‑to‑day operations, quality, and continuous improvement across all foundry processes.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
* Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse workforce including supervisors, operators, and support staff to achieve production, quality, and safety objectives.
* Build a high-performance culture based on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Foster open communication, provide regular feedback, and support professional development and succession planning.
* Resolve personnel issues promptly and fairly, promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
* Champion training initiatives to enhance skills, capability, and workforce flexibility.
Operational Oversight
* Plan, schedule, and oversee all foundry operations — including melting, moulding, pouring, shakeout, and finishing — ensuring output meets production targets and delivery deadlines.
* Collaborate closely with quality, maintenance, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth, integrated operations.
* Support the implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Quality & Safety
* Ensure all products meet required specifications and quality standards through robust processes and close collaboration with the quality team.
* Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental compliance. Lead by example in promoting safe working practices and a proactive safety culture.
* Conduct regular safety briefings, audits, and toolbox talks to reinforce standards.
Resource & Cost Management
* Oversee the effective use of materials, equipment, and manpower, optimising resource allocation to meet business targets.
* Monitor production performance, costs, and KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and leading corrective actions.
* Proven experience in a leadership or management role within a manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environment.
* Demonstrate ability to lead, motivate and develop teams to achieve operational goals.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels to build high‑performing teams.
* Practical knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements in an industrial setting.
* Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
* Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
* Previous experience in a foundry or metal casting environment.
* Formal qualification in engineering, manufacturing, metallurgy, or a related discipline.
* Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
* Experience working with ERP or production management systems.
* Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and casting process controls.
