About the role
As Assistant Head of Department and Teacher of Biology, you will work closely with the Head of Department to uphold and promote the college’s values and contribute to a cohesive, forward‑thinking team. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, student engagement, and attendance by fostering a supportive, inclusive environment.
* Maintaining strong communication with students and their families.
* Supporting the effective use of the college’s Information System (Markbook, PI indicators, notes) to monitor and support all students, particularly those at risk.
* Delivering engaging and innovative lessons across A Level Biology, BTEC (Level 3) Applied Human Biology, and potentially other science areas such as Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering, depending on expertise.
Qualifications and experience
* A degree in Biology, Human Biology or a closely related field.
* A recognised teaching qualification or a course in progress.
* Experience in A Level, Vocational Level 3, or BTEC (Level 3) Applied Human Biology – all Biology teaching backgrounds welcomed.
* Strong communication skills, a student‑centred approach and a willingness to embrace new teaching methods.
* Previous leadership or team‑lead experience is desirable.

Salary and benefits
Salary £32,178 £49,725 per annum (NSP 1‑NSP 9) plus a responsibility allowance of £2,261 per annum. Years of pay scale reviewed annually by the National Joint Council (NJC). Additional benefits include a generous Teachers' Pension Scheme, free on‑site gym facilities, free parking, a Cycle to Work Scheme and excellent on‑site catering facilities.
