Job Summary
We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our Team.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, we aim to treat and manage the needs of our patient demographic to improve the health of the local community. Working in our modern purpose-built medical centre with a diverse practice population of approx. 19,000, you will never be bored.
Main duties of the job
The HCA will be able to assess the clinical needs of patients. They will be expected to provide care/treatment in conjunction with the GP, as appropriate and according to Practice policy, protocol, SOP etc. The HCA will advise patients in general health care and minor ailments with referral to General Practitioners when necessary.
About us
Our Nursing team consists of 1 phlebotomist, 4 HCAs, 5 Practice Nurses and 4 Nurse Practitioners managed by a Nursing Team Manager. We are looking for a new HCA to join our Nursing team for 18 hours a week.
As a practice we provide teaching for medical students, participation in research studies and participation in service transformation pilots.
Job responsibilities
Identify, and participate as appropriate, in treatment plans for patients both at risk of developing long‑term condition and with a diagnosed chronic disease.
* Dressing and wound management, including compression bandaging/hosiery and leg ulcer care.
* Suture and clip removal.
* Specimen collection e.g. MSU, pregnancy tests, occult blood, faeces for O&S, sputum, etc. The HCA will be responsible for labelling samples, form filling and ensuring timely preparation of specimens for collection to laboratory.
* General observations e.g. BP, pulse and temperature.
* ECG.
* Use and care of nebulisers.
* The HCA will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of medical equipment.
* Ensure maintenance of stock levels in the Treatment Room relating to patient care.
Vaccinations/Injections
* Flu vaccination clinics / any other vaccination clinics as deemed appropriate.
* Any other routine injection e.g., B12, Shingles, Pneumococcal etc.

Experience
* Experience of working in a GP practice.
Qualifications
* Qualified in Phlebotomy.
* Qualified in Dressings and wound care.
* Qualified in Compression.
