Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Haematology & Blood Transfusion

The role is in a friendly, busy department that works closely with clinical consultant staff. The department is MHRA compliant and UKAS accredited. Unsocial hours are required; a locally agreed fixed payment is provided for night shifts.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Maintain the quality management system and UKAS accreditation.
* Train and support junior staff to develop their skills and careers.
* Validate and authorise laboratory results.
* Provide quality service for patients.
* Resolve complex equipment or process problems.
* Perform manual, semi‑automated and fully automated laboratory investigations within the defined service area accurately and efficiently.
* Manage day‑to‑day stock control and usage, including maintaining Blood Transfusion and Haematology stock levels and records, and monitoring usage to ensure efficient use.

Person Specification
Registration
* HCPC registered
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD
* Appropriate Post‑Registration IBMS Specialist Diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science
Knowledge & Experience
* Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of specialist biomedical procedures relevant to the post.
* Substantial practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
* Experience of Quality Management Systems.
* Experience of performing Risk Assessments.
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS.
* Previous experience of line managing staff.

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro‑rata.
