Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Start Date: Immediate starts available, as well as January 2026

Are you a calm, resilient and dedicated individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? We are looking for Learning Support Assistants to join a nurturing and forward-thinking primary SEMH school in Poole, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and challenging behaviour.
About the Role:
This is a full-time position, working with pupils aged 5–11 who have been identified as needing additional behavioural and emotional support. You'll play a vital role in helping children manage their emotions, engage in learning and develop the skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support individual pupils and small groups with their learning and behaviour
* Promote positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation
* Assist in implementing individual education and behaviour plans
* Provide consistent, calm and supportive presence throughout the school day
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
What We're Looking For:
* Experience supporting children with SEMH and/or challenging behaviour (essential)
* Patience, empathy, and a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
* Confidence in using de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies
* A team player who is flexible and committed to the school's ethos
* Relevant qualifications or training (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA, Mental Health First Aid) are desirable but not essential
