Duty Solicitor
Location: Farnborough, HampshireSalary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annumJob Type: Full-time, Permanent
Role Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and accredited Duty Solicitor to join our Criminal Defence team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a well-established firm known for its commitment to justice and client advocacy. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of criminal matters, attend police stations and magistrates’ courts, and provide expert legal advice and representation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Attend police stations and magistrates’ courts as part of the duty rota.
* Provide legal advice and representation to clients under the Legal Aid scheme.
* Manage a caseload of criminal defence matters including theft, assault, drug offences, and public order offences.
* Prepare cases for trial and liaise with barristers, experts, and other professionals.
* Maintain accurate and timely case records using the firm’s case management system.
* Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and firm policies.
* Contribute to the development of junior staff and trainees where appropriate.
Requirements:
* Qualified Solicitor with Duty Solicitor accreditation.
* Minimum 1 year PQE in criminal law.
* Strong advocacy skills and experience in Magistrates’ Court.
* Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Familiarity with Legal Aid procedures and billing.
