OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Head of Quality, Safety & Sustainability (Head of QSS) is a role within the R&G Fluid Power Group. This is a Nationwide role, although we would expect the successful applicant to be based in the Midlands area. The Head of QSS will oversee all aspects of Quality, Safety, and Sustainability (QSS) management for the R&G Fluid Power Group and the various businesses within the Group, across all business operations. The Head of QSS will be responsible for ensuring that all businesses comply with all relevant legal requirements and industry standards (BFPA), working with the business managers to deploy and audit strong quality management systems and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance our QSS performance across multiple business locations. The Head of QSS will also play a key role in promoting ESG initiatives (Delivering Value Responsibly) and will be a key contributor to the R&G commitment to bettering employee health and wellbeing. The Head of QSS will manage a team of QSS Managers/Administrator, and will engage with the senior leadership team on all aspects of QSS delivery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, implement, and maintain QSS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards. Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate risks. Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective and preventive actions. Ensure all businesses use the group health and safety management system (S2B Online), including but not limited to, accidents/lost-time, near-miss, and employee improvement suggestions. Ensure that our businesses are ISO accredited and maintain certification by conducting internal audits, coordinating external audits, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives (including environmental management). Support the senior management to embed Delivering Value Responsibly (ESG Programme) controls and initiatives to manage waste and emissions, supply chain audits and to improve employee health and well-being across all business locations. Provide regular training and coaching to employees to enhance their understanding of QSS policies and procedures. Manage and monitor all business emergency procedures (Business Continuity Plan), signage, PPE, COSHH Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including business managers, customers, suppliers, and trade associations. Provide regular reports to senior management on QSS performance, KPIs and improvement projects. Stay up to date with emerging QSS (including Health & wellbeing) trends, regulations, and industry standards to ensure that our businesses are always ahead of the curve, and to be the go-to subject matter expert. Manage and lead the QSS team to deliver the above requirements. Plan the QSS budgets for the financial year. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Experience of working in a similar QSS role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial sector. Experience in developing and implementing QSS policies and procedures. NEBOSH qualifications – Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management or equivalent (or willing to undergo training) Full UK Driving License Experience and understanding of ISO9001 standards. Understanding of ISO 14001 and 45001 would be beneficial but not essential. Proven experience in conducting health and safety and quality audits. Experience in implementing and managing integrated management systems Knowledge and understanding of ESG principles, including environmental law and sustainability principles Experience in managing a small team and QSS budget. KEY COMPETENCIES / CAPABILITIES Experience within Health & Safety, Risk Management, Quality Environmental Management, or equivalent. Effective communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all stakeholder levels. Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Proficient IT skills and ability to use management systems. A passion for Quality, Safety and Sustainability. Full UK Driving License ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Regular travel is required to visit various businesses around the UK. Some overnight stays will be required.
