What you’ll be doing
* Lead on Quality Assurance for the end-to-end underwriting support processes by:
o Overseeing service delivery (both directly and through our outsourcing partners) and ensuring alignment and adherence of the quality assurance framework with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
o Setting and maintaining the governance standards for process documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process mapping, workflows, and control frameworks. This also includes the tracking of and storage of SOPs to provide assurance of completeness of documented Operations processes.
o Overseeing the effectiveness and efficiency of Sompo’s core operational underwriting processes such as business submission, policy endorsements, and renewals.
* Championing Data Governance & Data Quality Standards By:
o Ensuring that Underwriting Guidelines are adhered to and all necessary controls performed to the highest standard (i.e. data completeness, accuracy and timeliness).
o Supporting the development and enhancement of PowerBI reporting suites to provide actionable insights on underwriting performance, backlog management, and productivity metrics.
* Spearheading the identification (and documentation) of continuous improvement and efficiency opportunities by:
o Supporting the overall drive in reducing the company’s reliance on external third parties and outsourced resources. This will also include working with the Senior Service & Data Manager to expedite the identification and mitigation of operational issues and challenges in both offshore and onshore teams (incl. the optimization of workflows).
o Supporting the Root Cause Analysis of failures between systems and User Acceptance Testing.
o Acting as an SME on behalf of Senior Management, overseeing day-to-day service delivery operations, ensuring representation and continuity of leadership and decision-making at necessary forums, engagement meetings etc.
o Business as usual activities that also include the following:
+ Reporting: provide meaningful and high quality input into the operational management dashboard(s) in an accurate and timely manner. This will also include aligning data reporting with internal audit and regulatory expectations, as well as supporting any other necessary governance forums or reporting requests.
+ Training and Development: Identify training needs to support the provision of training and development opportunities to enhance necessary skills and knowledge across Operations as well as other business functions. This will include: working closely with team leaders on identifying trends, and areas of concern with how processes and controls are being followed, so that the Operations Enablement Lead can provide targeted training interventions.
+ Cross-collaboration and stakeholder management: Building strong relationships as well as role-modelling collaboration across the wider Operations space (with both on- and offshore teams) by acting as a process subject matter expert on key underwriting processes.
What You’ll Bring
* Bachelors degree or equivalent, and insurance qualification (ACII) is preferred
* Significant experience of specialty and commercial insurance, and the London market.
* Experienced and confident team leader with at least 6 years of operational management experience.
* A track record of process improvement.
* Ability to represent Operations at senior levels with confidence.
* Data driven approach to measuring service and ability to analyse trends in data.
* Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
* Working knowledge of Insurance Underwriting systems.
