Our client is an independent manufacturer of bespoke cardboard tubes and cores producing millions of tubes annually, ranging from small diameters to large custom sizes, serving a wide range of sectors from industrial packaging, postal tubes, display/film props and carpet cores.
They are seeking a hands-on, reliable team member reporting to the Senior Production Supervisor in a busy cardboard and paper goods manufacturing environment. This role suits someone with engineering knowledge, strong problem-solving skills and the willingness to get stuck in wherever issues arise on the production floor.
Our client is open on the candidates experience; the ideal candidate will have an engineering mentality, will setting up machinery, troubleshooting, will assist with basic machine maintenance
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the Senior Production Supervisor in daily production operations
2. Assist with basic machine maintenance, adjustments, and set-up
3. Identify, troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and process-related issues
4. Help maintain production flow and output targets
5. Monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process
6. Carry out quality checks to ensure products meet specifications and customer standards
7. Identify defects, investigate root causes, and assist with corrective actions
8. Support training and guidance of Machine Operators where required
9. Ensure Health & Safety procedures and housekeeping standards are followed
10. Record and report production issues, quality concerns, downtime, and improvements
Required Skills & Qualities:
11. Engineering knowledge with strong mechanical aptitude
12. Confident using hand tools and basic workshop equipment
13. Ability to follow technical instructions and drawings
14. Willingness to learn production machinery and processes
15. Proactive and hands-on approach to problem solving
16. Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding quality control
17. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
18. Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment
19. Flexible and dependable
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
20. Experience using welding equipment
21. Experience operating lathes or other machining equipment
22. Strong practical workshop skills
23. Previous experience in manufacturing, engineering, or production environments
24. Forklift licence (advantageous but not required)
